Since I've been spending most of my spare time writing these days I have not done nearly as much reading as I normally would. I was looking at my Goodreads account the other day and realized I have only read 11 books this entire year, 11! I thought that surely I must have forgotten to add some and was racking my brain, but nope, this was it. So, although it's a meager little list I thought it would be fun to share just a few of my recent reads with you!
The Life Intended // I picked this one up on a whim from the library because I liked the cover and I'm so glad I did! It has hints of magical realism which I've recently come to enjoy in my reading (think anything by Sarah Addison Allen). The story deals with love, loss, moving forward, foster care and how family is more than just blood.
The Nightingale // This was our book club book for the month of March (side note, I've been in a book club for the past year and love it! If you're not part of a book club I highly recommend grabbing a few friends and starting your own!) This book. Wow. Heartbreakingly beautiful and well written, though definitely not an easy read. It's the type of story that makes your soul ache long after you've finished reading and I carried it around with me for days afterward, remembering the amazing women who endured so much - did so much - during the horror of WW2. I cried through the last 5 or so chapters, and I am not one to cry over books. The writing was reminiscent of Tatiana de Rosnay's Sarah's Key, and I liked it even more than All The Light We Cannot See. If you're a fan of those two books I would highly recommend this one.
Gilead // This was another book club pick from earlier this year. While it wasn't my favorite, there were some beautiful sentiments throughout and it was nice to read something different than what I normally do. Our book club ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars, which is just average for us.
Mom Enough // No, we're not pregnant. Just wanted to clarify lest the fact that I read a parenting book made you think otherwise :) My bestie, Emily, lent me this book and it was a quick, encouraging read. It's a compilation of blog posts by eight different women which explores the different trials and joys of motherhood and our need for God-dependent parenting. I highly recommend it for all my mama friends out there!
And here are a few of the books currently on my TBR pile:
The Lake House // Kate Morton is hands-down one of my all-time favorite authors! She crafts the most complex, intricate stories I've ever read. This is her newest novel and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter, and Me // I'm a lover of all things AoGG, add in adoption and a true life story and I'm hooked! A memoir of a mother's quest to answer her adopted daughter's questions about home, family and belonging through Anne of Green Gables. Yes, please!
Me Before You // I've tried reading Jojo Moyes in the past and could never get into her books. I've heard such great things about this one that I'm anxious to give her another try! Also, the movie trailer for this makes me want to cry every time so I've got high hopes for the book.
Have you read any of these? I'd love to know what you thought!
